Francoeur is located 5.28 km northeast of Edmundston on the border of Saint Joseph Parish and Saint-Basile Parish in Madawaska County.

In 1866 Francoeur was a farming community with about 2 families, including the family of Julien Francoeur. It had a post office 1919-1960 with Mrs. Olive Francoeur as the first postmaster. (Source:Place Names of New Brunswick)
