A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Farley Chamberlayne from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"FARLEY-CHAMBERLAYNE, a parish in Winchester [registration] district, Hants; 3¾ miles ESE of Horsebridge [railway] station, and 5¾ WSW of Winchester. It includes Slackstead hamlet; and its post town is Hursley, under Winchester. Acres: 1,767. Real property: £1,123. Population: 179. Houses: 32. The property is divided among a few. The manor-house was the place in which Sternhold composed part of the metrical version of the Psalms. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Winchester. Value: £369. Patron: T. Woodham, Esq. The church is a substantial structure of flint and stone, with a square tower; and has some fine monuments to the St. John family."

Farley Chamberlayne was in the Kings Somborne Hundred until 1834, then in the Micheldever Hundred. It was in the Hursley Rural District 1894-1932 when it was absorbed into the parish of Hursley. The area is now part of the Winchester District or City of Winchester of Hampshire.
