Emmet County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 10,302 in the 2010 census, a decline from 11,027 in the 2000 census.[1] The county seat is Estherville.

Emmet County was authorized by the Iowa Legislature in 1851,. There were finally enough settlers in the area to organize the county in 1859.[2] The county was named for the Irish patriot Robert Emmet, who was hanged as a traitor to the British government at the age of 23.
