East Boston is a neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, with approximately 40,000 residents. The community was created by connecting several islands using landfill and was annexed by Boston in 1836. East Boston is separated from the rest of the city by Boston Harbor and bordered by Winthrop, Revere, and the Chelsea Creek. Directly west of East Boston across Boston Harbor is the North End and Boston's Financial District. The neighborhood has long provided a foothold for the latest wave of immigrants, with Irish, Russian Jews and then Italians alternating as the predominant group. Today, young professionals wanting to own a piece of Boston are flocking to East Boston buying up renovated condos along Jeffries Point and Eagle Hill waterfront. East Boston is one of the only areas in Boston that hasn't made the significant real-estate jump. Young professional residents are hoping Eastie will be the next Southie in terms of atmosphere and the property value spike. Head to Piers Park to take in the breathtaking views of downtown Boston and get a small taste of why young professionals love East Boston. East Boston has a prime location in terms of access to downtown Boston via the Blue Line. The Jeffries Point neighborhood, extending from Maverick Square to Logan Airport along the Waterfront is slowly becoming gentrified and is now considered to be one of the more desirable neighborhoods to live in within the neighborhood.
