A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Durley from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"DURLEY, a parish in Droxford [registration] district, Hants; near the Gosport Junction and the Bishops-Waltham railways, 3¼ miles W of Bishops-Waltham. It includes the tything of Mincingfield; and its post town is Bishops-Waltham, under Southampton. Acres: 2,474. Real property: £2,732. Population: 411. Houses: 84. The property is much subdivided. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Winchester. Value: £410. Patron: the Bishop of Winchester. The church is old but good."

Durley is now a village and civil parish in the Winchester District or City of Winchester of Hampshire. It is located approximately 7½ miles (12.1 km) northeast of Southampton and has a population of around 500.

Durley was originally a chapelry in the ancient parish of Upham in Bishops Waltham Hundred of Hampshire. From 1894 until 1974 it was in the Droxford Rural District.
