From the Gazetteer for Scotland:
- "A village of North Ayrshire situated 11 miles (18 km) northwest of Kilmarnock on the River Garnock, Dalry developed in association with textile, iron, engineering, coal and brick making industries. A factory producing vitamin C and food colourants was opened in the 1980s."
The village had a population in 2001 of between 5,000 and 6,000 people.
