Culcheth was a civil parish in Leigh Rural District in Lancashire until 1933, when it was abolished. Part of the parish went to Croft Civil Parish and Woolston Civil Parish, (both now in Warrington Borough in Cheshire), and part to Golborne Civil Parish (now in Wigan Metropolitan Borough). In 1974 the part of Culcheth which was in Golborne Civil Parish was also transferred to the Warrington unitary authority in Cheshire.
