Crittenden County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky.It was formed in 1842. As of 2010, the population was 9,315. Its county seat is Marion. The county is named for John J. Crittenden who was Governor of Kentucky 1848-1850. Generally pro-Confederate during the American Civil War, both armies passed through the county repeatedly and several skirmishes took place. The county court house was burned by guerrillas in 1865, during the last months of the war. It is a prohibition or dry county.
