A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Coldsmouth and Thompsons Walls from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:
- "COULDSMOUTH AND THOMPSONS-WALLS, a township in Kirknewton parish, Northumberland; 7½ miles WNW of Wooler. Acres: 1, 415. Population: 30. Houses: 5."
Coldsmouth and Thompsons Walls was a township in the ancient parish of Kirknewton and became a separate civil parish in 1866. From 1894 until 1974 it was part of Glendale Rural District. In 1955 the civil parish was abolished and the area was absorbed into the parish of Kilham.
