Clifton is a town in St. Lawrence County, New York, United States. The population was 675 at the 2020 census. The town takes its name from a mining company. The Town of Clifton is in the southern part of the county, within the Adirondack Park. [edit] History
The first settlers came to work at the Clifton Iron Mine circa 1866, which built its first iron furnace the same year. The town was formed in 1868 from the Town of Pierrepont.
