Chessington is a town in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames in Greater London, England. The Hogsmill River runs through it. Neighbouring settlements include: Tolworth, Ewell, Surbiton, Claygate, Epsom, Oxshott, Leatherhead, Esher, Kingston upon Thames and Worcester Park. [edit] Research TipsChessington was historically a chapelry of the parish of Malden, Surrey, but was later treated as a civil parish in its own right. In 1894 it became part of the Epsom Rural District, and in 1933 transferred to the Surbiton Urban District. Surbiton Urban District Council was incorporated in 1936 to become Surbiton Metropolitan Borough. Surbiton Metropolitan Borough was abolished in 1965, becoming part of the London Borough of Kingston upon Thames.
