Cedar County is a county located in Southwest Missouri in the United States. As of the 2010 U.S. Census, the population was 13,982. Its county seat is Stockton. The county was founded February 14, 1845, and named after Cedar Creek, a tributary of the Sac River, which in turn is named from the Eastern red cedar, a common tree of the area. (The Eastern red cedar has been disappearing over time, however, because land was cleared for pasture and it is considered undesirable - farmers believe that the cattle that eat it become sick.)
