Carleton St. Peter is a hamlet and civil parish in the District of South Norfolk of Norfolk, England, approximately 8 1⁄2 miles (13.7 km) southeast of Norwich. There is no village centre but the church provides a reference point and is 1 mile (1.6 km) northeast of Thurton, and a similar distance south of Claxton, just east of Ashby St. Mary.

In the 2001 UK census Carleton St. Peter contained just 15 households and a population of 29 spread across the 3.19 km2 (1.23 sq mi) of the parish. In 2011 the population (being less than 100 inhabitants) was counted with one of its neighbouring parishes (not stated by Wikipedia). The church cannot be reached by road and sits in a small graveyard in the middle of a field reached by a short path between ploughed fields. The tower contains four bells but they cannot be rung.

The parish extends northwards to the south bank of the River Yare.

Research Tips

  • Ancestry.co.uk has the following lists as of 2018 (UK or worldwide Ancestry membership or library access required). With the exception of the index to wills these files are browsible images of the original documents. The files are separated by type and broken down into time periods (i.e., "Baptism, Marriages, and Burials, 1535-1812" is more than one file). The general explanatory notes are worth reading for those unfamiliar with English parish records.
