A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Bwlch Trewyn from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:
- "BWLCH-TREWYN, a hamlet in Cwmyoy parish, Monmouth; on the river Monnow, 5½ miles N of Abergavenny. It has a post office, of the name of Bwlch, under Crickhowell. Acres: 635. Real property: £654. Population: 95. Houses: 17."
Bwlch Trewyn was located in Herefordshire, England until 1844 where it was a hamlet in the parish of Cwmyoy. It continued to be part of Cwmyoy until the 1890s when it was made a separate civil parish in Abergavenny Rural District. It is located east of Cwmyoy and south of Oldcastle. Both places are north of Abergavenny.
Trewyn is a settlement within the parish and Bwlch means "a pass".
In 1935, in a move to reduce the number of parishes within Abergavenny Rural District, Bwlch Trewyn was absorbed into the civil parish of Crucornau Fawr.
