Burnmouth lies at the foot of cliffs 6 miles (10 km) northwest of Berwick upon Tweed. A harbour was built in 1830 and a railway station opened at the top of the cliffs in 1846, which operated until 1962. The settlement now comprises fishermen's houses and holiday cottages.
