The Borough of Burnley is a local government district of Lancashire, England, established 1974, with the status of a non-metropolitan district and borough. It has an area of 42.7 square miles (110.7 km2) and a population of 87,000 (2011 est.), and is named for its largest town, Burnley. It also covers part of the former Burnley Rural District. The borough is bounded by Hyndburn, the Borough of Ribble Valley, the Pendle District, and Rossendale – all in Lancashire – and the borough of Calderdale in West Yorkshire.
