A description of the early history of Braughing Hundred can be found in The hundred of Braughing: Introduction and map as provided by British History Online in the Victoria County History of Hertfordshire. The largest settlement in Braughing Hundred was Bishop's Stortford and the hundred was located in the eastern part of the county. In later days the area was, for the most part, covered by Braughing Rural District and, since 1974, the East Hertfordshire District.

A modern pronunciation of Braughing is "bray-fing".
