Bradwell is an ancient village and modern civil parish that (since 1967) is part of Milton Keynes (ceremonial county of Buckinghamshire). For a time, although it predates it, Bradwell was the supporting village for Bradwell Abbey, a Benedictine priory, founded in 1155 and dissolved in about 1540. The village name is an Old English language word and means broad spring. In the Domesday Book of 1086 the village was recorded as Bradewelle. The arrival of the London-Birmingham railway split the Abbey lands, with Bradwell village to the east of the line and the Abbey to the west. Both are now districts in their own right. There is an YHA youth hostel in the village at on the Sustrans National Cycle Network. [edit] Research Tips
