Bloomfield Hills is an upscale city located in the heart of Metro Detroit's northern suburbs in Oakland County in the US state of Michigan, northwest of downtown Detroit. The city is roughly 5 square miles in area and is bounded by Hickory Grove Rd. to the north, Quarton Rd. to the south, and Lahser Rd. to the west. The city is almost completely surrounded by Bloomfield Township. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 3,869. Bloomfield Hills consistently ranks as one of the top five wealthiest cities in the United States with population between 2,500 to 9,999 – it currently is listed at the number four position and in 1990 it was ranked number two. Bloomfield Hills has the second highest income for a municipality with over 1,000 households in the country and the first highest income in the state of Michigan. The median income for a family is over $200,000. In 2000, 49% of residential property in Bloomfield Hills had a value of over $1,000,000.
