Blair is a settlement with a history that goes back to the 13th century. It was originally based on Blair Castle, an estate to the southeast of Dalry Village. In the 19th century Blair Iron Works was established between the two villages. It is best described in the Ordnance Gazetteer of Scotland: A Survey of Scottish Topography, Statistical, Biographical and Historical, edited by Francis H. Groome and originally published in parts by Thomas C. Jack, Grange Publishing Works, Edinburgh between 1882 and 1885. This is available online on the website of the Gazetteer for Scotland.
