NOTE: Although the Family History Library Catalog equates North Barningham with Barningham Norwood, A Vision of Britain through Time provides separate quotes from Wilson's Gazetteer for each place. Wikipedia only has an article on North Barningham where there is no mention of Barningham Norwood. A study of the map of Norfolk of 1917 provided by A Vision of Britain through Time leads the writer to believe that they are one and the same place. Barningham Town (sometimes called Barningham Winter) is directly south of Barningham Norwood.

A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Barningham Norwood from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"BARNINGHAM-NORWOOD, a parish in Erpingham [registration] district, Norfolk; 4½ miles ESE of Holt, and 16 ENE of Ryburgh [railway] station. Post Town: Holt, under Thetford. Acres: 834. Real property: £1,065. Population: 30. Houses: 8. The property is divided among a few. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich. Value: £156. Patron: Trustees of late W. H. Wyndham, Esq. The church has an ancient brass, and is tolerable."

A Vision of Britain through Time also states that the parish (which had an extremely small population) was absorbed into the neighbouring Gresham parish in 1935.

  • Ancestry.co.uk has the following lists as of 2018 (UK or worldwide Ancestry membership or library access required). With the exception of the index to wills these files are browsible images of the original documents. The files are separated by type and broken down into time periods (i.e., "Baptism, Marriages, and Burials, 1535-1812" is more than one file). The general explanatory notes are worth reading for those unfamiliar with English parish records.
