Aliquippa is a city in Beaver County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania; it is within the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The population was 9,438 at the 2010 census. Formerly the borough of Aliquippa, it was formally named a city in 1987 by the Aliquippa Borough Council. The city used to have a population of over 27,000, but with much of the steel industry leaving Pittsburgh the area started to decline. From 2000 to 2010 the population dropped another 2,000. Although the city population is continually dropping, the population in the area surrounding Aliquippa is growing at a good pace.
