In 1872, the rural community of Adelby and the rural community of Tarup merged to form the new Tarup community. On newer city maps, the Adelby area is again designated separately in the original area and Adelby is no longer used as a synonym with Tarup and the other former villages. The city itself does not use the name in the area of ​​districts and district division. The cemetery, repeatedly extended in the 20th century, is still the only cemetery in the eastern city of Flensburg.

Adelby is still part of a green corridor that extends from the Flensburg harbor, over the Lautrupsbachtal, Adelby, the Vogelsang, Blocksberg and the Tremmeruper forest, to the castle Glücksburg .
