Person talk:William Wardwell (60)

From William Wardwell (2): Two people? [2 May 2010]

This need sources. It currently has some appearances of being two people combined. It shows a death of "2 May 1693" in Taunton which disagrees with the following, but shows a wife Alice which matches Elihu's birth record, and shows a wife Elizabeth which matches the following: Source:The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, p. 48:458, "Abstracts of Early Suffolk Wills", No. 525: William Wardell, probated 18 Apr 1670, "wife Elizabeth one-half of dwelling house in Boston", "daughter Rachel Wardell", "wife's daughter Hannah Gillet", "wife's daughter Deborah", "Eldest son Uzall Wardell" [executor], "son Elihu Wardell", "Daughter Leah, wife to William Tower", "daughter Meribah, wife to Francis Littlefield of Wells", "daughter Mary, wife to Nathaniel Rust".--Jrich 22:59, 18 May 2009 (EDT)

There do seem to be problems. My sources, for William Wardell, father of Mary who m. Nathaniel Rust, are: Rust, Albert, Record of The Rust Family (FHL Film #0982207), which gives Mary's parents as William and Alice Wardell, based on his will;
and on NEHGR 48 (Oct 1894), "Early Salem Wills", pp. 457-460, specifically p. 458 - No. 525, William Wardell, will probated 18 April 1670, of Boston, . . . to dau. Mary, wife to Nathaniel Rust, 10 shillings
The Rust source is quite old, but where I checked seemed to be reasonably well researched. That doesn't mean it's right, and this appears to be one of the places it's not. Since the Wardell's are in-laws of in-laws, I'm quite willing to contribute my very meager sources and let others, who are more directly descended, try to sort this one out.--GayelKnott 13:34, 2 May 2010 (EDT)
