Person talk:William Thompson (249)

Confusion about Two William Thompsons [1 October 2021]

This William (249) and William Thompson (289): WT 249 is largely considered to be the one that donated the Tinkling Springs property in Early Augusta. However, WT 289 is called William of Tinkling Springs and supposedly lived on the property. 249's wife was Jean and 298's wife was Jane, but each name appears on the records listed under 249. Are the two William's the same person? Did 249 re marry Jane after his wife Jean died? 249 supposedly did not have a will, but 289 did. No death records for either Wm. Actual records for each are sparse, so hoping someone has some other information. I'm getting autosomal DNA test hits with descendants of both Williams!--BThompson01 00:00, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

My documentation supports the fact that there were two separate William Thompson families. With common names, birth dates and records which do not clearly distinguish between same names, identification is difficult.
