Person talk:William I of England (1)

Peverell [5 March 2013]

I removed the Peverell wife and child, as there was no source given for the relationships, and modern sources agree there is no evidence that William had illegitimate children. (See the Wikipedia article, and the Henry Project link.)--Werebear 17:01, 5 March 2013 (EST)

Surname [28 September 2013]

I have removed the surname "Beauclerc", as all the sources I have seen agree that it was given to his son, Henry, in recognition of the good education he had received. I haven't seen the sources cited on this page as authorities for attributing the surname to William, as they don't seem to be online, but I assume, if they are reliable, that they are being misrepresented here. Of course, feel free to correct me.--Werebear 23:28, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Birth Date [28 September 2013]

I have also removed the unsourced birth date. Cawley discusses the evidence for William's birth date in the reference given on the person page. He does not give a precise date, but the evidence given contradicts the unsourced Oct 1024 date.--Werebear 23:35, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Also, does anyone know the original source for the birth date given on this page (14 Oct 1028)? As far as I can tell (I have not seen it), the source given is not a scholarly work. Wikipedia, citing David Bates' biography of William the Conqueror and the official website of the British Monarchy, as well as a few primary sources also cited by Cawley, merely gives 1027 or 1028 as William's birth date.--Werebear 23:50, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
