Person talk:Thomas Wheeler (11)

Parentage of Thomas Wheeler [26 August 2009]

The Wheeler Families of Old Concord based on the work of George C. Tolman

This Thomas Wheeler is numbered #3001 by this source.

"The will of Timothy Wheeler (#2901) speaks of him as "my nephew, Serg't Thomas Wheeler", but he could not have been the son of Captain Thomas (#2801) whom we know to have been a brother of Timothy, for Cap't Thomas and his son Thomas had both died before the date of Timothy's will."

It summarizes:

  • 1st Captain Timothy Wheeler # 2901 and Captain Thomas Wheeler #2801 were brothers
  • 2nd They were nephews of Obadiah #1001
  • 3rd They were both uncles of Sergeant Thomas Wheeler #3001, since Captain Thomas' son Thomas died in 1677

Note, Source:Wheeler, Albert Gallatin. The Genealogical and Encyclopedic History of the Wheeler Family in America notes that perhaps the reference to Sgt. Thomas Wheeler refers to a different Thomas Wheeler because this Thomas Wheeler is not known to have a son Ephraim, as mentioned in Timothy's will, and Thomas' son Joseph was dead (1677) by the time Timothy's will was written (1680/81). But, according to Source:Concord, Massachusetts, births, marriages, and deaths, 1635-1850, he had a son Ephraim in 1678 and a second son named Joseph in 1680/81, both by his second wife.

Baptism date

I removed the baptism date of 8 Apr 1620 that was added with no source. It was inconsistent with the data already on the page which gave a birth (should have been baptism) of 21 Dec 1621, which comes from a work by a premier genealogist, Donald Lines Jacobus. A source, hopefully of high quality given the reputation of this genealogist, would seem to be required to override it. --Jrich 13:13, 26 August 2009 (EDT)
