Person talk:Richard Odell (3)

Dropped / Re-added notes [2 August 2010]

I reviewed the notes you put back in for Richard Odell, and there was a reason I dropped them when I did the merge.

First note:

'He was married to Elizabeth PEIRCE on 15 Sep 1565 in Bedfordshire, England. The American Genealogist, 14:224 says he married (2) Anne (or Agnes) Rogers in 1580/81 and has Richard baptised in 1581, which, if correct, could well make him a son of Ann Rogers Odell. Other children of William and Ann (Rogers) Odell were Thomas (1583), William (1585), Ann (1587), Dorothy (1589), Susan (1592), Margaret (1595), and Mary (1598).'

The first sentence matches info from the TAG article, although the wording is a bit confusing, as the Richard baptized in 1581 is the son of this Richard. The second sentence mentions William and Ann (Rogers) Odell. The TAG article indicates that it was Richard who married Agnes/Ann Rogers, and that these children are the children of Richard (c. 1540-1611). I removed the note partly because I thought it was misleading based on the TAG article (and partly because I planned to load the children of this marriage later this year - guess I shouldn't have removed all the notes before I did so.) Do you have more recent information that indicates Agnes/Ann Rogers married a William Odell? I know the TAG article is a bit old (1937).

Second note:

'Richard ODELL was born in 1540 in Bedfordshire, England. He died on 31 Mar 1611 in Bedfordshire, England. Parents: Richard ODELL Jr. and Agnes ROGERS.'

I removed this note because the first part is already in his facts (although it was actually his burial that was 31 Mar 1611), and the second part is incorrect - he married Agnes and was not her child. I wonder if the notes were confused somehow with his son Richard baptized in 1581.

Please review this information, and if you agree, change the notes. If not, let me know what info you have. Thanks.--DataAnalyst 12:03, 2 August 2010 (EDT)

I copied this to the talk page of the person, since everyone who is subscribed to the page is alerted when the talk page of that person changes, and since this is discussion about a person's stats, it belongs on said person's talk page.

I added back the deleted notes because no sources were listed. I believe in listing as many discrepancies as possible, until something is disproven, and then listing it as disproven, in order to flesh out the facts. Therefore, I will be leaving the possibly incorrect information, with a note to see the talk page. If others want to change it, they can do so. The Odell's are not one of my main research families.--Obstinatesnooper 20:30, 2 August 2010 (EDT)
