Person talk:Jacob Cooke (1)

Burial Location? [2 July 2009]

It seems a little strange to me that in 1675 a person would die in Plymouth, MA, according to good sources, where he resided according to his will, would be buried in Rhode Island (actually then Swansea, MA). The data that was on this page gave the burial as Date: 18 DEC 1675, Place:Barrington, Bristol, Rhode Island, United States, Description: Tyler Point Cemetery. No source was attached.

After a quick search, the Internet sites I find giving this same burial give a death date of 7 Jul 1676 which does not add to their credibility. I also noticed one website that says that Jacob's widow Elizabeth married Hugh Cole and they appear to both be buried in Tyler Point Cemetery. Therefore I assume it was just a poor assumption that Jacob was buried with his widow.

If I am wrong in removing this information, please provide reputable sources. --Jrich 19:48, 1 July 2009 (EDT)

I have that information, admittedly unsourced, in my database. The source for Hugh Cole's burial is E.B. Cole's Descendants of James Cole.--Amelia 00:37, 2 July 2009 (EDT)

Many sources seem to place both Elizabeth and Hugh Cole there, which is not unreasonable since it appears Hugh Cole lived there. The question is Jacob. Without evidence either way, there are many reasons for thinking he wouldn't have been transported there (probably at least a full day's travel if not two), away from where he lived with family and friends, to be buried with his widow's next husband whom she hadn't married yet. That I can work out, none of the land holdings in his inventory are near Swansea/Barrington though I don't recognize all the place names listed, and his will written just days prior to his death says he is "very weake in body" making it unlikely he was traveling. I could be wrong since I am arguing with no real evidence myself. --Jrich 09:34, 2 July 2009 (EDT)
