Person talk:Hannah Beardsley (3)

One source listed maiden name as Wheeler. Previous marriage?

As seen, Hannah Beardslee married first Daniel BACON. I believe she had one child by him, not positive.

The Fairchild children born as late as 1774 suggests that it is different Hannah as this one was long past child bearing age. The Barbour collection shows the following just in Stratford:

  1. Hannah, dau Joseph, b Apr 30, 1671
  2. Hannah, dau Samuell, b Oct 25, 1682
  3. Hannah, dau William & Elizabeth, b Feb 9, 1708/09
  4. Hanah, dau Josiah & Mary, b Feb 7(?), 1715 [this must be her]
  5. Hanah, m Joseph GRIMES, Apr 14, 1715
  6. Hanah, dau Thomas & Sarah, b May 28, 1715
  7. Hanah, wife Capt. John, died Oct __, 1718
  8. Hanna, m Abner BEERS, b of Stratford, Oct 1, 1761

This is correct. I don't have the verbage of Hannah's will with me, but she refers to her FAIRCHILD children as well as her married "BACHEN" children Mary & Hannah in the last section. Daniel BACON (m 1735/6) died shortly before or after birth of 2nd BACON dau about 1738. Hannah's marriage to FAIRCHILD occurred in 1740. I don't believe this Catherine belongs in this family, although the webpage I found says there was a Catherine mentioned in Jonathan's will, but not Hannah's will. I will give the website for your perusal. This Catherine would probably be born too late for either Jonathon (b 1715) or Hannah(1714/15). Therein "lies the rub". Later Neal

THE FOURTH GENERATION: Jonathon Fairchild (c. 2 Aug 1715 Newtown, CT-12 Jan 1783 Newtown) m. Hannah Beardsley 25 June 1740 Newtown, CT. Hannah (c. 7 Feb 1715 Stratford-1805 Newtown, CT). She is the daughter of Josiah & Mary (Whitmore) Beardsley. Children of Jonathon & Mary: 1) Seth (c. 8 Mar. 1741-1815, 2) Josiah b. 11 Nov. 1754, 3) Zadock b. 1760. Administration of Daniel Bachen’s (BACON) estate was granted to widow Hanna, 27 June 1738. Distribution was ordered 13 May 1743 to the widow, now Fairchild, and the children Mary, b. 13 Jul 1737, and Hanna b. 27 Jan 1738/9. Jonathon’s will, written 12 Sep 1782 and proved 12 May 1783, names his three sons and daughter Catherine. Hannah’s will**, dated 24 Feb 1798 and proved 20 Sep 1805, names daughters Hannah and Mary Bachen(BACON) and her three sons.

** No mention of Catherine, perhaps deceased by 1798

This is found on Page 19: (if you go to print mode). Sources mentioned on last 3 pages.

Have you seen the actual will? non of the listed sources are cited as the source of the information given. Most of the sources listed sound irrelavant to genealogy, a rather strange sounding list. There is a good chance of finding something in the Ricker compilation. [[1]] Do you perchance, know where to find a copy. I first heard about it just a couple days ago. The 3 sons were certainly spread out allowing plenty of time for a dau. between. If we assume Hannah's birthdate is old style that helps but 45 or 46 is still stretching. 46 seems close to the absolute limit for childbearing. I descend from her brother Israel, so she is not my ancestor. Scot

Wish I could say I knew that source. I don't. Lost all my sources with all my research about a year ago. I believe I've read most of this in a Bacon genealogy, also, but can not find recently. The Catherine listed may be dau of a son of Jonathon's ? Getting kicked off Library PC- they're closing. Will post more when I find more. Neal

I also desend from Daniel's g-aunt Mary who m. Samuel Whitmore. Scot

Hey, Scot

Have not had luck finding actual will copies w/citations, but in the Newtown Vital Records was Catherine's birth listing (no marriage date for her unfortunately) and no birth record for the "younger" sons in Newtown Vitals. Just Seth, Catherine. Odd --Neal Gardner 19:15, 20 August 2009 (EDT)

Have a "wild" theory that Zadoc Fairchild may have been the child of Catherine Fairchild, dau of Jonathan & Hannah. If you look at the children of Zadoc, his first son is Ebenezer Hawley Fairchild. Ebenezer Hawley was Catherine's 1st husband, m ca 1765. Oddly, Zadoc is always listed as born in Fairfield, Fairfield Co., CT, while Seth, Catherine & Josiah are born in Newtown. Catherine was ca 16 when Zadoc was born. Food for thought.--Neal Gardner 16:07, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
