Person talk:Elizabeth Fletcher (14)

Removed death date; needs more [12 November 2009]

The death date that was shown (24 Jul 1715, since removed) appears to apply to Benjamin Butterfield, per Source:Chelmsford, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States. Vital Records of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, to the End of the Year 1849, p. 371: Buterfield, Benjamin, sr., [died] July 24, 1715. Also found on that page, an relevant record for reasons discussed below: Buterfield, Benjamin, jr. [Serg. G.R.1], [died] Mar. 31, 1715. [a. 35 y. 1 m. 2 w. G.R.1]. This second Benjamin was therefore born about 17 Feb 1679/80.

NEHGR, p. 44:33, has an article entitled "The Butterfields of Middlesex", by Geo. A. Gordon, that explores several generations of this family. Based on this, Benjamin Butterfield, s/o Nathaniel, m. Sarah --- and died 24 Jul 1715. Benjamin Butterfield, s/o Joseph, m. Elizabeth --- and died "1714-15". So not only does the death date appear to belong to Benjamin, it appears to belong to the wrong Benjamin.

Source:Hodgman, Edwin R. History of the Town of Westford in the County of Middlesex, Massachusetts, 1659-1883, p. 30, identifies on the first tax list of Westford, not explicitly dated, but the town was founded 1730: "Elizabeth Butterfield, widow of Benjamin Butterfield (son of Joseph), who died before 1715." So Elizabeth appears to have lived until at least 1730. --Jrich 12:29, 11 November 2009 (EST)
