Richmond Library of VA on microfilm. Frederick County Elizabeth’s father Joseph Colville Sr bought a 400 acre farm from Joist Hite in 1743 on the south bank of the crook of Opequon (o PECK an) Creek. Frederick Co VA Deed Book 1 p68. Joseph Colville Jr. 1721-1816 m. Mary Poe in Pa, later m Martha Colville, a cousin w/same gggrandfather William 1723-1746 Martha 1725 m. Robert Colville w/same gggfather James Sarah 1727- m. William Vance Elizabeth 1729-1797 (?) m. 1) John Black 2) Samuel Newell Andrew BKM 1731-1797 m Mary Craig Samuel 1733-1771 m Agnes Colville w/same gggfather James Samuel and Andrew among others bought land from Dr. Thomas Walker's agent and in 1771 made a caravan to what is now Abingdon VA. Elizabeth and Sarah homesteaded nearby land. Samuel and Agnes died en route. Their sons Samuel, Joseph and Geroge were dedded their tract as heirs. Samuel Jr dies in March 1780 (Washington County journal). Joseph fought at Battle of Kings Mtn (BKM)

Janet and Christian moved to Black’s Fort, then remained there in Abingdon with their husbands and Uncle Andrew Colville, their substitute father, when the others went southwest. Some of their families remained in Frederick County after they moved. Two Vances were Presbyterian ministers in Northern VA. Thomas and Margaret Colville Newell did not make the move to Black’s Fort.
