Person talk:Edmund Sherman (1)

This person has been attributed to marriages with Judith (Angier/Angiers/Auger/...), Joan Makin (apparently discredited), Grace McKim/Makin. The latter seems a more likly possibility. Somewhat weirdly, there is also some indication of Grace as the spouse of Edmund's father John. Anyway, there's some untangling that needs to occur here.

I spent a few hours trying to do just that yesterday. I have 7 Johns and 5 Edmunds, one of each married to a Makin. Edmund m Joan and Edmund m Judith are not the same person.I haven't read Richardson's article yet, but the impression I get is that he didn't prove Edmund's wife wasn't Joan Makin, just that she wasn't daughter of Tobias. I'm not sure how much faith I have in Richardson, although TAG is well regarded and all articles are refereed. There was a Rev. John and Capt. John both in Boston. They were first cousins, but many have their families tangled together. Savage seems to have it sorted out although his stuff requires considerable sorting just to understand. He shows both Johns named a dau Grace, one b1653 or 5, the other in 1659. Rev. John was son of Edmund and Judith, Had two wives, Mary unk and Mary Launce w 6 known children by 1st w and 10 by 2nd. Capt. John I have as son of John and Grace Makin. The fathers John and Edmond seem to have been sons of Henry and Susan Lawrence. Savage is on line at [[1]] but if you prefer I can e-mail you my interpretation. I have Edmund and Joan as parents of Grace Sherman m Samuel Livermore with no parents for either. Some of this I have had from years ago when I didn't adequately cite sources. I hope we somehow can get a handle on it. I have at least 3 lines of descent from these people.--Scot 18:01, 21 April 2008 (EDT)

I don't think I'm anywhere near being in a line of descent from these folks, but I am very interested in seeing duplicates ironed out of the werelate data base, which got me to where we are on all this. Honestly, I would be thrilled to see someone else take it from here... Jrm03063

I'm afraid it willtake the work of everyone who is interested to do that. I'm just hoping Dallan finishes the match/merge utility soon and it will hopefully, streamline the process. I just found Sherman stuff from NEHGS at [[2]]I haven't looked at it yet.--Scot 18:32, 21 April 2008 (EDT)

Oh no - I mean take this fragment of genealogy from here! I don't expect anyone to get quite as wound up about merging duplicates as I am. I would be thrilled if people would just try to iron the duplicates out of their own trees - or at least mark duplicates when they find them or even ask for help when they find one! Jrm03063.

I'm working on this. Vol. 6 of TGM helps because both Edmund Sherman and his nephew John are covered. Edmund, as it turns out, married Grace Makin and this John was son of John Sherman and Grace Ravens who later married Thomas Rogers and then Roger Porter. These marriages were covered extensively in a TAG 61 piece on Tobias Makin by Myrtle Stevens Hyde and Douglas Richardson; and in a TAG 62 piece on Grace Ravens by Michael J. Wood. I think I've got the Grace Ravens pages pretty much sorted out, but there's a way to go on Grace Makin.--Jaques1724 18:32, 21 April 2008 (EDT)
