Person talk:Agnes Unknown (429)

This birthdate could not allow this person to be dau of Robert & wife Elizabeth. Could we agree to generally use the ages of the 5 children listed on the ship list ?

Would love to clear up any confusions. More information, please?--LindaS 22:26, 10 March 2010 (EST)

Hi LindaS:

If you look at the information at the top of the Robert Lovell and Elizabeth Unknown (1) page, you'll see ages for Robert's children from the ship list at their arrival in 1635. The age that is in contention is for Ellyn/Ellinor listed as age 1. Many think it should have been read as age 7, since she states in 1666 that she is about age 38, giving her a birth year of 1628 or 1629. This Agnes b 1698/99 appears to be of the same generation as the father, Robert Lovell b 1695. I did a brief search to see if I could find an Agnes/Anna as dau in another Lovell family group (there are several), but no success as yet. Perhaps we could detach Agnes/Anna from this family group, assign her parents as 'Unknown Lovell and Unknown' for now. Agnes may be a sister of Robert, but I've not seen that published anywhere. Let me know what you think. The other children of Robert and Elizabeth, I will go ahead and assign the approximate birth years per the ship list until & if I find evidence otherwise. Cordially...--Neal Gardner 10:59, 11 March 2010 (EST)

Hi, Neal, and thank you very much!

Researching Agnes Bicknell-Rockwood's upline has been on my to-do list, but has never really happened, and I hadn't checked this out here before. Looking at the information, you are certainly correct. Somewhere, I suspect, Agnes was conflated with Anna and an 'Agnes Anna' was birthed. If nothing else, the ISTG list confirms the rough births, showing Robert and wife Elizabeth, aged 40 and 35, with their children, and also Zachary Bicknell and wife Agnes, ages 45 and 27, and a son.

So... The Agnes (Unknown) Bicknell who married Richard Rockwood.... Agnes, the widow of Zachary Bicknell is documented. Is there any evidence beyond the "facts" that fall out from the conflation with Anna that this Agnes was even a Lovell? I have not seen any. I hadn't put Agnes' parentage in my own database, because I had not looked at it. I will be removing the 'Lovell', and poor Agnes goes back to being an Unknown, at least for now.

As far as the information here, do you want to make the edits? Or do you want me to? She definitely needs to be disconnected as child of this family, and very possibly needs to be Agnes Unknown who married Bicknell and then Rockwood.

Hi Linda,

I can go ahead and give Agnes an 'Unknown' surname. Do you want to retain the Agnes/Ann given name. I'll reduce it to Agnes. If you want to restore the 'Ann', just add it back in. Regards..--Neal Gardner 14:32, 12 March 2010 (EST)

Hi, Neal

I'm more than happy having the 'Anna' go away. On anything that I have confidence in, and in all bits of evidence, she has always just been Agnes. No mention of middle name or alternative name, etc. I think the 'Anna' came along with the conflation. Thanks for doing the work on editing, sir. I'm still trying to learn the editing process....
