There are several discrepencies with William's age. He was christened in 1832 and his age on the 1841 census is 9 years, indicating that he was born around 1831-2. However, at his marriage in 1868, William gives his age as 32 (implying he was born in 1836. This may be because his wife was a lot younger than he was.) When he migrated to South Australia in 1878 he gave his age as 38! (He would have been about 46 if everything else is correct.) This may have been to help in getting an assisted passage. However, the age given at his death (60 years) in 1891 does agree with his birth data.

1841 - With parents at Stone Cutter Alley, Gt Queen Street, St Giles, London. Sweep, aged 9, born in the county.

1851 - With widowed mother, living at 3 Bull and Gate Gallery, St Giles in the Fields, Middlesex. No occupation recorded, aged 18, born at St Giles.

1878 - Emmigrated with wife and family as an assisted immigrant to South Australia.

1891 - Died. The following appeared in the Adelaide Advertiser on 23 November 1891: "Friends of the late William Wright (pensioner of the Royal Horse Artillery) are respectfully informed that his funeral leaves the Adelaide Hospital this day 3.30 PM for West Terrace cemetery. HENNIGS (undertaker)."
