Living in Chicago with sister Harriet at 1880 census. Wife not with him. Listed as a registered voter in Chicago in 1888, a resident of the state for 5 years, at the time.

In Manistee, MI at 1900 census which shows no children, but a 14 year old adopted child is living with them. Census names the child as Robert Bealer, male, but called an adopted daughter.
