Will Abstract

I, William Walker, of the city of Richmond, late of Warren in the County of Albemarle do hereby make my last will & testament...if there is any surplus I wish it equally divided between my brothers Andrew and Francis and my sister Jane Walker...should I recover from Lain Jones any part of the land or negroes now contending in the High Court of Chancery at Richmond it is my Will that the said property be disposed of as my Executor may think proper and divided in like manner between my three brothers and my sister aforesaid...I make the foregoing bequests to my brothers James, Andrew, and Francis Walker (my sister Jane being free from any exception) under the following restrictions, that they each of them pay unto my father Francis Walker six per centum per annum on the amount received from my estate during the term of his natural life, and should the amount which each shall receive exceed one thousand dollars in value each of my brothers aforesaid to wit James, Andrew & Francis Walker shall pay unto my sister Eleanor Laird or her children thirty three pounds six shillings and eight pence... With respect to my property with Samuel Shelton, John Staples, and myself bought of Wilson Cary Nicholas it is my Will and I do hereby give and bequeath my right title and interest in the said property to wit the Warren Mills...unto my brother James aforesaid to him and his heirs forever...Any bonds or accounts which may be due me by Andrew Laird my brother in law or by my brothers aforementioned is hereby cancelled and declared void...
In witness whereof I have herewith set my hand and affixed my seal this thirteenth day of December Eighteen hundred and Three.

Notice of William Walker's death printed in the "Virginia Argus" (Richmond, Va.) on March 21, 1804.
DIED--At Norfolk, on Monday the 12th inst. William Walker, Esq. of this city, late of Warren and county of Albemarle, aged 33 years.His death is regretted by all those who knew him.--He was an affectionate husband, a worthy citizen and a dutiful son.

  • Vol. 2 - Walker's administrator vs. Jones's administrator--O, S. 226; N. S. 80-- Bill, 1810. Bill filed in Albemarle, 1813, by Walter Leake, administrator c. t. a. of Levi Jones, Elizabeth Jones, his widow, and Orlando, Lain and William Jones, infants of Lain Jones. Elizabeth was Elizabeth Clayton. William Walker and Elizabeth conveyed to Lain Jones a tract of land and all their interest in a deed by Orlando Jones to John Clayton, 1771. Lain Jones was only child and heir of Orlando Jones, who died testate. Will dated 4th May, 1804. William Walker and Elizabeth are both dead. Defendants are, viz: James, Andrew, Francis, Walker and Sally, his wife; Andrew Laird and Eleanor, his wife (late Walker); Charles Mosly [Mosely?] and Jane, his wife, late Walker; Francis, Josephus, Rebecca Walker, and Daniel Couch. Copy of a former bill filed in Albemarle by William Walker and Elizabeth, his wife, shows that on 27th November, 1771, in contemplation of a marriage between Orlando Jones, deceased, and Elizabeth (oratrix), daughter of John Clayton, deceased, a marriage contract was entered into. Conveys 400 acres in Albemarle and certain slaves. In February, 1793, Orlando died without issue by Elizabeth, who married Walker in 1793. Deed 27th November, 1771, by Orlando Jones of Albemarle and John Clayton of Gloucester. Marriage settlement. Recorded in General Court, 30th April, 1772. Deed 19th May, 1795, by William Walker and Elizabeth to Lain Jones, 400 acres in Albemarle. Recorded in Albemarle, June, 1795. Bill of revivor filed by heirs of Elizabeth Walker, viz: John Clayton, Nicholas Davis, Samuel B. Davis, Timberlake V. Davis, Catherine C. Meriwether, Edith Clay, Thomas Hughes, Henry Hughes, Susanna Hughes, Jasper Clayton, William B. Clayton, Arthur Davis. Deed 30th May, 1795, by Lain Jones of Albemarle to William Walker, mortgage.
