William is the AUTHOR of the source book for the records of the Van Benschoten Family. Without his great book, the relationship of the Jacksons and the Van Benschoten families would probably not have been found. He compiled his records over many years and published Concerning The Van Bunschoten or Van Benschoten Family in America in 1907.

William's mother died before his ninth birthday and his father died when William was not yet 21 years old. One wonders if the loss of family life inspired him to collect so much ancestral history. The whole family was very well educated, with very strong religious (Methodist) upbringing. The stories in the later part of his book make it a joy to read!
