On 7th August 1748, aged 19, William married a Mary Clark. They had four sons and a daughter together between 1749 and 1757. In 1759, William's parents appear to have both died at virtually the same time, both being buried on 28th September 1759.

In 1762, William's wife Mary died. About eighteen months later, William remarried. His second wife was Eleanor Dunn, and they were married at Westborough, the parish immediately north of Foston, on 14th May 1764. They would have another six children, although their eldest died young. Several of the baptisms of William's children record that he worked as a labourer. William died aged 47 being buried on 23rd May 1777. His youngest child, Samuel was buried eight days later. Eleanor outlived William by nearly 44 years, but never remarried.
