E. Thompson, 61, Air base carpenter, was killed about 5:20 o'clock this morning when he was struck by east bound Passenger Train #2 at the Hull St. crossing in West Clovis. Carrying his lunch basket as he walked onto the crossing, Thompson apparently failed to see the on'rushing passenger train. His body was picked up 34 ft. east of the crossing. A coroner's jury, investigating the accident, returned a verdict of death by "Being struck by a Train" Engineer Al Bryant of the passenger train, who saw Thompson walk on the crossing, turned to his Fireman and asked if the man cleared the crossing. Deceased, who was 62 years of age at death, is survived, aside from his widow, also by 2 daughters, Mrs. J.D. Jackson, Clovis, and Mrs. E.D. Devers, Mergargel, TX, by 6 sons, L.E. Thompson, US Army, some where in VA, F.E. Thompson, US Army, somewhere in Africa, Loyd, living in Clovis, R.A. and Clyde, both of Elk City, OK, and L.D. Thompson of Higgins, TX. There are 15 grandchildren. Thompson for the past 6 years had been a resident of Clovis, most of that time working at his trade of carpentering at the Clovis Air Bas References
