Facts and Events
Born on New Year's Day, 1849 in a German-speaking farm community of Saxon immigrants in Missouri, William was baptized Friedrich Wilhelm Timann. He was the oldest child except for a sister who had died in infancy. For some reason he wasn't listed on the 1860 census, though his parents and three younger siblings were. In 1880 he married a girl from his hometown of New Melle, Missouri, Wilhelmine Schiermeier. According to the book "History of Deshler, Nebraska 1887-1987," William purchased a farm in Thayer County, Nebraska in June 1874, but this seems too early; his son Paul's obituary states that the move to Nebraska was in 1886. This farm was purchased in the 1940's by William's son Otto, and again purchased in the 1970's by Otto's son George, making it third generation. Wilhelmine gave William four children, but died when she was only 25. William then married Magdalena Wulfekötter and fathered six more children, for a total of ten:
