McClung who made oath according to Law Certificate is Granted them for obtaining Letters of Administration of the Estate of William Steele Dec they having together with John Bowyer & Jno. Caruthers their Securities entered into and asknowledged Bond in the Penalty of one thousand pounds Conditioned according to Law.~
- Ordered that Joseph Walker, James Buchanan, William McCorkle and Jno. McClure or any three of them being first sworn to appraise in Current money the Slaves and personal Estate of William Steele Deceased and return an Inventory and Appraisement thereof to Court. ~

Ordered that Joseph Walker Esq.r. all of the hands between said Surveyor & James Wilson & that he together with the Tithables in the usual bounds clear & keep the same in Repair according to Law.
- Rockbridge County, VA Court Minutes: 2 Feb. 1790: Ordered that William Steele, David Steele, James Buchanan & John Patton or any three of them being first sworn to appraize in Current Money the Slaves & Personal Estate of the said John Mitchell and return an Inventory & Appraisement thereof to Court.

- Page 67.—10th April, 1800. Robert Steele, Sr.'s, will—To wife, Mary; daughter, Mary Steele; to grandson John Steele, son of son John, deceased, infant; to son, David; daughters, Aliner Allen, Martha Paxton; to orphans of deceased son William. Executors, son David Steele and Thomas Paxton Teste: John Tate, Hugh Fulton, Henry Miller. Proved, 28th July, 1800, by Tate and Fulton; on motion of Mary Steele, ordered that David Steele and Thos. Paxton, of Rockbridge, be summoned. They relinquish. [Note: this will of William's father Robert Steele proves this William Steele died prior to the writing of his will in April 1800, underline and bold emphasis added].
