William Bonser Singleton was born in 1848, the second of ten children of a coachman and groom named Robert Singleton and his wife Eliza Worth Bonser. He was named after his mother's grandfather, William Bonser, who had brought Eliza up. William Bonser Singleton died aged just under a year old.
