"Read, William. Settled in Fairfield before 1673, and d. between 7 May and 23 June 1697.
He purchased land in Fairfield from Cornelius Hull prior to 1673; bought from his sister-in-law Sarah Baldwin in 1675, and from Daniel Westcott in 1681. In 1675 he had land by gift from Thomas Skidmore. … He conveyed the Hedges lot to his children, Sarah and Abigail Read, and the rest of his lands to son John Read, 2 Sept. 1693, and gave them another conveyance, 7 May 1697, the dau. Sarah then being called Barlow. Inv. 25 June 1697. Before his death he made legal conveyance to his son John and two daus. Sarah Barlow and Abigail Reed of his whole estate, and the widow by agreement received satisfaction in lieu of the dower she could claim; adm'n granted to son John, and son-in-law Joseph Barlow, and dau. Abigail. The widow Mary acquitted the estate, 23 June 1697."
