This Indenture made the Twenty-sixth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty two between William Powell of Woodford County and Commonwealth of Kentucky of the one part and G W Knight of the County and Commonwealth aforesaid of the other part, Whereas the said William Powell stands bound unto the said G W Knight in the sum of Thirteen Dollars due upon an an account and whereas also the said G W Knight has endorsed for the said William Powell a certain promissory note payable to Jacob Russell for the sum of Ten dollars dated the 13th day of July last past and payable six months after date, and the said William Powell being desirous to secure the payment of said account and save the said G W Knight against all responsibility as endorseer of the note aforesaid. Therefore this Indenture witnesseth, That the said William Powell as will for and in consideration of securing the payment of the said account and the said endorserfrom the payment of the said note as the sum of one dollar to him in hand paid by the said G W Knight at and before the sealing and delivery hereof, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained, and sold, released[?] and confirmed. And by these presents doth grant bargain and release & confirm unto the said G W Knight his heirs and assigns one Gig and harness. To have and hold said gig and harness hereby granted or mentioned or intended so to be unto the said GW Knight his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of the said GW Knight his heirs and assigns forever, Provided always nevertheless that if the said William Powell his heirs executors or administrators, Shall and do well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said GW Knight the said account and shall and do well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Jacob Russell the aforesaid promissory note for ten dollars on the day and time therein mentioned and appointed for payment thereof, or by other lawful means save and keep harmless and indemnified the said GW Knight his heirs executors and administrators from the payment of the said note and all costs and damages or charges as sureties aforesaid then and from thenceforth as will this present indenture and the estate hereby granted as the said recited obligation shall cease determine and become absolutely null and void, anything herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 26th day of August 1842.

    Commonwealth of Kentucky Woodford County to wit:
    I Norman Bauman(r?) Jg Clerk of the COunty Court for the county aforesaid do certify that this deed of mortgage from William Powell to GW Knight was this day produced to me in my office and acknowledged by the said William Powell to be his act, and deed the said deed of mortgage was indexed and lodged for record same day. Whereupon hte said deed of mortgage together with the foregoing certificate hath been duly admitted to record in my office.
