Facts and Events
Judging from the language in the will of his father, Nicholas NORMAN, William NORMAN had done (or not done) something which greatly displeased his parent. Unlike his brothers, he, and his heirs, were forever to be barred from inheriting any of Nicholas' real property, and the bequest left to him was the smallest by far of any in the will, including those to Nicholas' daughters. The prohibition against William's children inheriting any of Nicholas' real property leads me to surmise that William's "offense" somehow involved his choice of a spouse, but I have yet to discover any hard evidence which would support this supposition. The language of the will applying to William is as follows: ". . . But my Will is that the said Land, shall never go, be sold or given out of the Norman Family, but to descend from heir to heir of that Family (excluding my son William and his heirs to all Eternity." "I give and bequeath to my son William Norman the use of the houses where he now dwells for the term of Eight Years from the Date hereof together with one Acre of Land thereto adjoining. As [sic] also the Sum of 20 pounds current Money, provided he will assist my Executors hereafter named in settling my Books, Bonds, and Notes, But in case he should refuse to give assistance to them, then my Will is that he shall not receive the benefit of the said Bequest."
