Conscripted unwillingly into CSA service by Shelby's men, 22 Sep 1864. Managed to desert after about one month and was captured by Federal troops about 23 Oct 1864. Never took the Confederate oath. Described himself as married, six children, farmer. Died of typhoid in Federal prison camp at Alton, Illinois.
