Dr. William Leigh Mortensen William Leigh Mortensen was born in Palms, CA where his father practiced medicine before moving to Santa Monica in 1913. He grew up in Santa Monica until he went away to study at Loma Linda University near San Bernardino, a Seventh Day Adventist college. He later added two years of post graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1931 he married Helen Elberta Jincks. They had three children, William Soren, Marilyn Lee, and John Crisler. He returned to the Santa Monica area in 1933 and hung up his medical shingle in Culver City. He moved his practice to Santa Monica in 1946, following his release from the Army Medical Corps in which he had served during World War II. He spent most of the war years in the Southwest Pacific, tending the wounded in 17 or 18 landings. He was with the first American convoy which landed in Japan. Dr. Mortensen became president of First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Santa Monica, following his father Dr. W.S. Mortensen. (No year is given) References
