William J. McLuen obit. Saturday night, Wm. J. McLuen, who has for the past year been making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Ashton died from a stroke of apoplexy, aged 80 years, 3 months, and 9 days. For fifty five years he had been a resident of this county, and in that time had constructed more buildings than any other one man. He was a carpenter by trade, and followed it until age crept upon him, when he then bought a farm, east of town which he occupied until a few years ago he removed to Guthrie Center. After the death of his wife he made his home with his children. He was born in Roscommon county Ireland and was brought by his parent to Ohio at the age of nine months. He grew to manhood in Noble county that state and then married Mary Merry. To that union thirteen children were born nine of whom survive him, being James, Charles, George, Otis also five daughters, Mrs. Marie Ashton, Mrs. Laura Jones, Mrs. Emma Hogelin, Mrs. Beatrice Cook and Mrs. Nora Rummell. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters J. S. and R. F. of Guthrie Center, J. A. of Grand Junction Colo, and J. F. of Des Moines and Mrs. Mary Malloy of Dechare (?), Mrs. Susan Frizell of Washington and Mrs. Alice Stover of Guthrie Center. His funeral was held on Monday afternoon from the home conducted by Rev. J. C. Wright, a Christian minister formerly of this place. The services at the graveside were in charge of the members of the Masonic order, the deceased having been an honored member of Lodge 123 A.F. and A. M for many years. Guthrian 16 Nov 1911, p. 5.
