  8. William D. Harris Dies - Heart Ailment Fatal to Well-Known Farmer -
    Wife and Nine Children Survive - Services Tomorrow at Emmanuel Church

    William David Harris, 50, well known farmer of Carthage Route 3, died at 12:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon in McCune-Brooks Hospital, where he had been a patient three days. Death was due to a heart ailment. Mr. Harris was born April 19, 1890 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He formerly lived in Barton County and 3 ½ years ago moved to Dr. W. R. Post's farm, Southeast of Carthage. Last September he purchased the Amos T. Poncot farm, southeast of the city and had lived there since. Surviving Mr. Harris are his wife, Mrs. Mortie Alma Harris to whom he was married March 20, 1910 in Lamar; nine children, Mrs. Delores Fortner of Kansas City; Ray Harris of Jasper; Lee and Billy Harris of Lamar; and Gene, Ruby, Maxine, Bob and Ernie Harris all at home; two brothers Claude and Earl Harris of Lamar; a sister Mrs. Annie Rector of Sheldon Route 2 and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm tomorrow afternoon at Emmanuel Baptist Church. The Rev. Joe Hickman of Joplin will be in charge. Burial will be in Dudman Cemetery. Mr. Harris was a deacon in the Emmanuel Church. The body was moved to the Knell Mortuary.
